The YUM ALGAE project aimed at improving the overall sensory quality of microalgae as a food ingredient, using enzymes, which targeted two of the main organoleptic characteristics (aroma, flavor, color): the fish-like smell associated to volatile compounds and the green dark color from the microalgal pigments.

Projects DoMAR and YumAlgae combined private investment with the generous contribution of public funds attributed by the EEA Grants under the Blue Growth programme.

Through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA), Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are partners in the internal market with the EU member states.
As a means of promoting a continuous and balanced strengthening of economic and trade relations and commercial relations, the parties to the EEA Agreement have established a multi-annual financial multi-annual financial mechanism, known as EEA Grants.
EEA Grants aim to reduce social and economic disparities in Europe and to strengthen bilateral relations between these three countries and the beneficiary countries.
